NORMAL, Ill. -
Matt Miller was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for the second consecutive week. The Illinois State junior fired a three-under-par 69 in the third-round of the Cardinal Intercollegiate to finish the tournament in second-place with a three-round total of 209 (74, 66, 69). This is Miller's second career MVC Player of the Week honor.
Miller shares the honor this week with Creighton sophomore John Sutko, who captured first-place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Kansas City, Mo. Sutko fired a four-under-par 68 in the third round to finish with three-round total of 211 (72, 71, 68). Sutko's score of 68 was a career best.
The Bloomington, Ill., native also posted a second-round 66 at the Cardinal Intercollegiate. His second round included his second career hole-in-one on the par 3, 210-yard 3rd hole.
Head coach Ray Kralis feels Miller has played consistent golf this season.
"Matt Miller has played some extremely solid tournaments this season," said Kralis. "He has kept his pace going from the summer. We need that kind of play from him."
Miller finished tied for fourth-place in last week's Kansas Invitational, posting his career best score of five-under-par 67 in the third-round and finishing with a three-round total of 210 (69, 74, 67).
Miller and the Redbirds travel to Springfield, Mo., on October 17th-18th to play in the Rivercut Invitational hosted by Missouri State.
