Richdale Named Valley Player of the Week

Sept. 28, 2005

Normal, Ill. - Senior Samantha Richdale was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the week for the 13th time. Richdale earned the honor four times as a freshman, five as a sophomore, three times as a junior and this is the first time this year.

The Kelowna, B.C., native broke three school records in 54 holes at the Lady Northern Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. Richdale tied for tournament medalist honors with Maria Hernandez from Purdue with a three-round score of 214, the lowest 54-hole score in ISU history. Richdale broke her own 54-hole Redbird record. She shot 217 in 2003 at the Shootout at the Legends in Franklin, Ind.

Her record-breaking 214 included an all-time low 36-hole score of 141 after day one of the tournament. Richdale broke that record by seven strokes. She and former Redbird Julie Baxter both had shot 148s for the previous low. Finally, Richdale's 69 in the second round beat the previous Redbird best of 70. It had been done six times by five players previously--Richdale (twice), teammate Ashlie Rose, and former Redbirds Suzanne Walker, Vickie Appleton and Tina Lindsey.

Richdale and the Redbirds return to play October 10-11 as they travel to Franklin, Ind. to play in the Shootout at the Legends held at the Legends of Indiana Golf Club.
