Head coach Chris Hoover will take his Illinois State women's tennis team to St. Louis this weekend for the Saint Louis University Invite. The Redbirds will start the tournament on Friday, Sept. 9 and complete play on Sunday, Sept. 11.
Hoover and the team are heading into the invitational looking forward to its preparation for the upcoming season as well as the chance to compete against five other teams.
Hoover not only wants his team to compete well, but he also wants to send a message at the tournament.
"We want to send a message that we are still the team to beat," said Hoover, whose team was 18-8 overall last season winning a third Valley championship and earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.
This weekend's tournament includes Bradley, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois and Southeast Missouri State.
Six players from last year's Valley championship team return, including seniors Emilie Sechaud and Ashley Maxwell who will be looking for a fourth conference title. New additions to this year's team are junior Michelle Rabinovich and freshman Megan Rozboril, a Bloomington High School graduate.
