The Illinois State women's tennis team finished the third day of the Mizzou Mock-Dual in Columbia, Mo., Sunday, taking home 15 wins in both singles and doubles against Missouri, Iowa State, and Saint Louis.
Heavy rain at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia forced some of Sunday's matches to be cancelled, while the Redbirds matches against Iowa State were the only contests to be played on the third day of the Mock-Dual.
After four wins Friday and eight wins Saturday, against all three schools in a hidden-dual style format, the `Birds finished their last singles matches against Iowa State, winning three of the six matches.
In flight A singles, senior Katri Miller, who had three wins on Friday and one win on Saturday, beat her opponent, Caitlin Loprinzi 6-2, 4-6, (10-8). Freshman Julia Zubkova was outplayed by her opponent, Kara Hickey with a score of, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Junior Carolyne Parent defeated Chrissy Derouin, 6-2, 6-0, while senior Matea Simovic lost to Jill Palen, 6-2, 6-1. In flight 5 singles, freshman Jeanelle Stines lost to her opponent, Alyssa Palen, 6-3, 6-0, and junior Véronique Parke-Bédard won her match against Dori Losonczy, 6-0, 6-0.
Head coach Chris Hoover was pleased with the `Birds performance against Iowa State.
"We are starting to get back into competing," said Hoover. "Hopefully, from this tournament we will get back into the swing of things."
Wrapping up their fall season, the Redbirds will resume pay on January 26, with the first match set to be played against Eastern Illinois at ISU's own, McCormick Courts.
