Redbird Cross Country Competes at Saluki Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Three members of the Illinois State women's cross country team had the opportunity to collect more race experience before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships as they competed as individual entries at Saturday's Saluki Invitational. Senior Maureen Nelligan, junior Whitney Beals and freshman Hannah Radostits all ran in the women's 5K race in Carbondale, Ill.

Nelligan led the Redbirds, finishing in 69th place with a time of 20:42.31. Radostits finished with a time of 21:08.17 and in 80th. Beals (89th place) finished the race in 21:53.65.

Southern Illinois swept the team titles in both the women's and men's races. The Salukis placed six runners in the top 15 in the women's 5K race, finishing with 50 points and ahead of Southern Indiana (56 points). Sara Hiller of Missouri-Kansas City won the individual title with a time of 17:48.66.

The Saluki's Mohamed Mohamed won his first individual title in the men's 8K race, posting a personal-best time of 24:32.68. Southern Illinois finished the race with 45 points, with Southeast Missouri State in second-place with 66 points.

Both the Redbird men's and women's teams return to action next Friday, Oct. 13, when they compete at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill.
