Redbirds Finish Day One at The Legends in Seventh

FRANKLIN, Ind. - Senior Hilary Anderson led the Illinois State women's golf team as she shot a first-round par and fired a two-round total of 149 (72, 77) tying for 15th place individually as the `Birds finished day one at the Shootout at The Legends in seventh-place, Monday at The Legends of Indiana Golf Club.

The Redbirds finished the day with a total of 604 (301, 303) and are just 17 shots back from the lead and seven shots back from the top three.

"With each tournament our play gets better," said assistant coach Pina Gentile. "We played solid golf today."

Only seven shots back from second-place Gentile was pleased with the team's play.

"We have been working on improving our team score as well as individual scores," said Gentile.

Freshman Britt Knutson finished just two shots behind Anderson with a two-round total of 151 (76, 75) and tied for 24th individually. Just one stroke behind Knutson was freshman Stacey Miller who fired a 152 (77, 75) and tied for 31st. Sophomores Marci Hill (76, 77) and Tiffany Hockensmith (77,76) shot 153 and tied for 37th.

"We had consistent play today," Gentile said. "However, we still have the ability to improve."

Campbell finished the day in the lead and shot a two-round total of 587 (300, 287). Toledo finished six shots back from the lead with 593 (302, 291), while Wisconsin shot 597 (304, 293) and finished in third. Iowa (296, 302) and Illinois (301, 297) fired a 598 and tied for fourth. Eastern Michigan shot 603 (301, 302) and placed fifth. ISU tied with other Missouri Valley Conference team Missouri State with 604 (302, 302). Western Michigan shot 606 (302, 304) and placed ninth followed by, Southern Illinois (10th), Georgetown (11th), Northern Illinois (12th) and St. John's (13th). Cincinnati and Ball State tied for 14th followed by, Ohio (16th), Indiana State (17th) and Old Dominion (18th).

Gentile is looking forward to the final round.

"It would be great to improve on our score today," Gentile said.

The final round of the Shootout at The Legends will start on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., where the teams will compete in the final 18 holes.
