Normal, Ill. -
Illinois State senior Kyle Pullman has been named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week.
The award comes after her stand-out performances against Big 10 foe, Illinois. Pullman finished first place in the 50-yard freestyle, which happened to be the only first-place finish for the Redbirds.
Individually the Elgin, Ill., native swam a 24.71 in the 50-yard freestyle. She also had a season best swim in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.89. Pullman also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (54.31) and was the anchor swimmer for the 400-yard freestyle relay, which also placed second (3:38.68). Head coach Steve Paska feels Pullman is off to a great start this season, and believes the honor was well deserved.
"I think this week's award is reflective of how Kyle has competed since day one at our Red and White Scrimmage," said Paska. "She is one of the most consistent swimmers in her specialty events of the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. She's done a tremendous job leading our sprint groups in all the meets we've had. All of her hard work and dedication is finally paying off."
Pullman will continue her quest for success with her teammates this Friday in Macomb, Ill., at 5:00 p.m. The meet will mark the sixth-straight weekend the Redbirds have been in competition. Friday's event will feature Illinois State, Western Illinois and Iowa State.
