NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State's women's basketball team will look to pick up its first win of the season when they travel to Chicago's north side to face host Loyola in a non-conference meeting at The Joseph J. Gentile Center Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Redbirds are coming off a 97-69 season-opening setback at Northern Illinois on Saturday. Loyola also dropped its season-opening contest against visiting Northwestern (78-60).
Illinois State owns a 3-0 all-time advantage over the Ramblers, including posting consecutive wins in each of the past two seasons. The `Birds tallied an 82-56 win over Loyola last November at Redbird Arena, and recorded a 62-58 road win in December, 2004.
Loyola finished the 2005-06 campaign 4-25 with a 3-13 record in Horizon League play. The Ramblers, who return three of their top-five scorers from last season, were picked sixth in the 2006-07 Horizon League preseason poll.
While the in-state rivals compete in separate leagues, Illinois State and Loyola will face five similar opponents this season: Bradley, Chicago State, DePaul, Indiana State and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
The game marks the first of three games for the Redbirds in Chicago this week. ISU will compete in this weekend's DePaul Invitational, where they will face Stony Brook (Nov. 17) and either No. 19 DePaul or Yale (Nov. 18). The Redbirds' home opener is scheduled for Nov. 26 against Chicago State.
