Northern Iowa quotes

Northern Iowa head coach Bobbi Petersen

Opening Statement...
"We knew coming in that this match was going to be a battle because Creighton is a great defensive team. I'm really proud of the way our team played, especially in games one and two when it got really tight. Our kids stayed aggressive and that was the difference."

On the team fighting nerves to start the game...
"We try to stay really calm on the bench because we know that's what our team needs. We try to be a calming influence because we know it's natural to be a little nervous. We came out to start the match a little more jittery than I thought we would. I think the positive thing is that they (the team) hung in there and kept fighting. It's hard when there is a lot of pressure, especially being the No. 1 seed. Even with all the pressure our kids came out and played really well."

Junior Laura Rowen

On today's match...
"Out on the court it felt really good for us today. We had a good day hitting and setting. We worked really hard as a team and stayed unified throughout the match."

On being one step closer to the NCAA tournament...
"We are really excited and want it really bad. I don't know how else to say it, but we are going to work really hard to make it happen."

Head Coach Kristen Bernthal-Booth

Opening Statement...
"We are disappointed (with the loss) because we felt we had a chance to reach the finals and possibly win the tournament. We always ask our girls to leave it all out on the court and I thought they did. They beat a hot Illinois State team that was playing on their home court earlier and we asked them to come back two hours later and do it all over again. I didn't know how they would respond, but I thought they played really well. I'm really proud of what the team did today."

On the possibility of the team being emotionally drained after game two...
"I was concerned that Northern Iowa would come out and make a run early. We came out at the beginning of game three and played okay. We are a team that is notorious for giving up big runs and late in game three, that happened again."

Junior Kelly Goc

On the loss to UNI...
"Korie (Lebeda) set the ball really well and we made a lot of errors on our side. UNI did a great job of capitalizing on those errors."

Sophomore Kori Lebeda

On playing the second game of the day...
"It's definitely hard coming in and playing a brand new team that is fresh. I think we did pretty well. We came out and played really hard even with competing earlier."
