For the second time this season, Illinois State junior point guard Boo Richardson was named the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.
Richardson led the Redbirds to a pair of victories over Lewis and Illinois-Chicago, while averaging 18.5 points per game. He also shot 60 percent from the field (12-for-20) and 40 percent on three-point tries (4-of-10).
Richardson averaged nine assists and 5.5 rebounds per game during the week and logged 34.5 minutes per game.
It marked the third time this season a Redbird won the league's newcomer of the week honor. Richardson won his first on November 27 and teammate Dom Johnson also earned the award after the first week of the season.
