NORMAL, Ill. -
Though the frigid temperatures indicate otherwise, the spring softball season is right around the corner. The Illinois State softball team is hosting a pair of camps in the coming weeks to help prepare area athletes for the spring.
The Redbirds will host a hitting and pitching clinic on Sunday, December 17 at Horton Field House, on the campus of Illinois State University. Running from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the clinic is open to any area softball players, ranging in age from 7th grade through 12th grade. At the hitting clinic, players will have the opportunity to learn and execute the fundamentals of hitting all pitch locations, while the pitching clinic will focus on teaching the four basic pitches, pitching strategies and various techniques.
The fee for the winter hitting and pitching clinic is $100 and includes instruction, insurance, lunch and a camp t-shirt. Registration can be done online at the official athletics website, GoRedbirds.com.
A second clinic will be held after the new year, as the `Birds will host a developmental clinic for softball players in second to eighth grade. The camp, which will be on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007 will also be held at Horton Field house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The purpose of the clinic is to develop the fundamental skills necessary to be successful softball players. Players will be grouped according to age and the clinic staff, composed of ISU head coach Melinda Fischer, her staff, and current and former Redbird softball players, will supervise instruction.
The Redbird softball developmental clinic costs $65 and includes camp t-shirt and lunch. To register online using a credit card, visit the camps link at GoRedbirds.com
