CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The first of three baseball games in 2006 between the Illinois State Redbirds and the Iowa Hawkeyes did not go as expected for head coach Jim Brownlee and the `Birds, as Iowa posted six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on way to a 10-0 win on the second day of the Austin Peay Invitational. Illinois State drops to 0-3 on the season, while Iowa improved to 2-0.

Junior Dan Frega (0-1) earned the loss for the Redbirds after surrendering eight runs, only five of which were earned, and walking four in 4.0 innings of work. Iowa starter Austin Seward earned the victory after giving up just two hits in 6.0 innings.

Iowa got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning on a Nathan Price single that scored Jason White from second base. The Hawkeyes then went on to add three more runs in the bottom of the third inning, two of which were unearned, and extended their lead to 4-0. With runners on first and third with two outs, Frega overthrew ISU first baseman Darren McEvilly and Jeff Engle scored from third base to give Iowa a 2-0 lead. White then singled, advancing Brian Burmester to third, and later swiped second base. An errant throw to first by ISU second baseman Jesse Griswold on a grounder by Kevin Hoef allowed White and Burmester to score and the lead was extended to 4-0.

The big inning once again bit the Redbirds, as Iowa scored six runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase the lead to 10-0. ISU committed two of its four errors on the day in the inning while Hoef, Matt Wooldrik, Travis Sweet and Dusty Napoleon added one RBI apiece in the inning for Iowa and Price earned 2 RBI on a two-run single.

Matt Bolt, Kevin Dubler, Gabe DeMarco and Mike Stalowy accounted for ISU's four hits in the game, while Joe Burke and DeMarco each added walks. Price finished with 3 RBI for Iowa, after going 3-for-4 and also scoring a run.

The Redbirds take the field for their final game of the Austin Peay Invitational on Sunday against the host Governors. ISU will look to get revenge for Thursday's 7-6 loss to APSU, with freshman Jim Sajewich taking the mound. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Raymond C. Hand Park.
