Opening statement:
"I'd rather get beat like that then losing a heartbreaker 1-0. What we have to do is eliminate the big inning. We've given up the bulk of our runs this weekend in just three innings. Giving up six to Iowa in the fifth inning today really put us in the hole. Even though we haven't started like we expected to, we'll figure it out and get after it tomorrow against Austin Peay."
On the 0-3 start:
"We've hit a tough patch right now and it's not because we don't have talented players. We have a good group of veterans and newcomers that all need to focus on getting better and eliminating mental errors. We just need to keep at it and continue to develop team chemistry in order to get going in the right direction."
On what you learn from early non-conference contests:
"When you start early in the year, you are never quite sure what kind of team you have. Every team is different and I use this non-conference schedule to figure out the best lineup and get the right players out there. Unfortunately, losing is contagious but so is winning. If we can get a win under our belt, it should help get everybody on the same page."
On not panicking after a rough start:
"We've only played three games out of 56. It's way too early to start panicking and it's also the first time that a lot of these players have been on the dirt in a collegiate baseball game. However, our upperclassmen really need to take charge right now and get the younger guys through this stretch and keep learning."
On Jim Sajewich's first collegiate start tomorrow against Austin Peay:
"Obviously we don't know what to expect from Jim in his first time. There's no doubt that he's going to be nervous but he just needs to get out there and get the first batters out of the way and he'll be fine. Jim has good velocity on his fastball and has a good curveball, so as long as he throws strikes and limits his mistakes he should have a good day."
