Three ISU Programs Rank Among Nation's Elite in APR

March 1, 2006

NORMAL, Ill. - The NCAA released a list of teams, on Wednesday, which ranked in the top 10 percent nationally in each sport based on Academic Progress Rates (APR). Among those top tier teams, Illinois State was represented three times thanks to its women's cross country, women's golf and women's tennis programs.

"We are so proud of these programs, along with the student-athletes, coaches and staff involved. This is just exemplary," Illinois State Director of Athletics Dr. Sheahon Zenger said. "It is also a reminder, that although we are in the entertainment business, intercollegiate athletics is still heavily rooted in education."

The APR rating is to provide a real-time snapshot of an institution's current academic success. In addition to releasing the list of the nation's elite, the NCAA also released the list of programs that will face penalties due to an APR score that falls below a pre-determined threshold. Illinois State did not incur any penalties from the national organization in all of its 19 intercollegiate athletics programs.

The three ISU teams, women's cross country, women's golf and women's tennis, all registered perfect multiyear APR scores of 1000.
