Normal, Ill. -
Representing the Illinois State gymnastics team at the NCAA Regional competition in Fayettville, Ark. at 6 p.m. on Apr. 8, are sophomore Cheryl Berezan from White Rock, British Columbia and freshman Meaghan Koshman from Regina, Saskatchewan.
Berezan will compete in the all-around competition while Koshman will take on vault. Berezan averages a 37.221 all-around score and currently stands 23rd in the region. Koshman's consistent vaults hold her at number 16 in the region with a 9.721 average.
Berezan carded a 38.525 career best all-around score on Mar. 3, in Horton Field House against Illinois-Chicago. Koshman performed her career best vault of 9.850 twice. Her first 9.850 showing was at Southeast Missouri State on Feb. 17, and the next at Illinois-Chicago on Mar. 5.
Redbird head coach, Bob Conkling couldn't be more proud of his two Canadian gymnasts, who have both competed in every meet of the season.
"I am so excited for this opportunity for these two tremendous athletes," said Conkling. "They are both fantastic gymnasts who deserve to attend this meet. Cheryl has competed all-around every single meet for me which says a lot about what kind of gymnast she is; very hard-working and dedicated. I'm not even remotely surprised that Koshman qualified on vault. We foresee great things from her in the future too. She is a very steady and solid gymnast. I expect both of them to do really well in Arkansas."
