NORMAL, Ill. -
Area youth baseball players will have the opportunity to play a lot of baseball this summer. They will also have an opportunity to hone their skills with the Illinois State baseball coaching staff if they choose to do so, as several clinics are being offered this summer by head coach Jim Brownlee and his staff.
There are three different sections of the summer clinics, with the offense/defense and pitching/catching clinics taking place June 5-8 at Redbird Field. The developmental clinic, which is for campers ages 6-10, is slated for June 12-15. In addition, there will be a second clinic offered for the offense/defense clinic June 19-22. Aside from the developmental clinic, the others sections will be open to campers ages 9-17 and will cost either $100 or $120.
The summer clinics allow all ages of players to learn new skills and get feedback from an experienced, Division I coaching staff. However, for more advanced high school players, the instructional/skills clinic is offered. Taking place on Saturday, August 19 and wrapping up on Sunday, August 20, the instructional/skills clinic will provide the high school players the opportunity to play in two scrimmage games and will prepare them for what it takes to play well at the high school and eventually the collegiate level. The clinic costs $150 but is limited to 84 participants and those spots are filling up rapidly.
For more information on all the clinics being offered, visit the Illinois State Athletics website at GoRedbirds.com and click on the camps link in the sidebar on the front page. Camp registration brochures are available in PDF form to print and on-line registration is also available on the site.
