Illinois State head women's golf coach Ray Kralis has added one more golfer for the 2006-07 season. Tiffany Hockensmith, a transfer from Indiana University, is joining the Redbirds just in time.
New faces and fresh talent fill the roster, hoping to add to the success veterans senior Hilary Anderson, junior Olivia Campos and sophomore Marci Hill have experienced. Although a sophomore, Hockensmith will be joining the 2006-07 recruiting class of Laura Harris, Britt Knutson, Christine Larson, and Stacey Miller.
"We're thrilled Tiffany has decided to continue her collegiate career as a Redbird," Kralis said. "She has been very successful in her junior tournament campaign, and has proven herself as a performer with one year of Division I golf under her belt."
A native of Bloomington, Ind., Hockensmith has competed in several prominent tournaments including finishing tied for 5th in the Indiana Women's Golf Association State Amateur Championship in 2005, 1st in the Plantations junior golf tournament in 2004, and winning the 2003 Indiana Girls State Juniors championship.
Her low round as a Hoosier was at the Lady Northern Invitational at the Indiana University golf course, firing one over par 73, in which the Redbirds placed 9th as a team.
With just two returning golfers, Hockensmith isn't coming into a necessarily experienced team, but will be no stranger to the competitive fields and low scoring.
"With already established goals and a good mindset, she is likely to come in and make an impact right away," said Kralis.
The Redbirds start off the fall season in Madison, Wis. September 11, 2006 at the Badger Invitational.
