Redbirds Add Miami Transfer

Aug. 10, 2006

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head football coach Denver Johnson continues to bolster his offensive line with the addition of Miami (Fla.) transfer Jonathan St-Pierre, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound offensive lineman.

"He's a big, thick, strong guy coming out a big program at the University of Miami and is well-coached," said Johnson. "Right now, we're trying to build our offensive line and are in the process of finding five starters and quality depth at the position. I'm sure he'll figure into that mix somewhere.

"He's going to be behind in the learning curve coming into camp late, but we're excited to get him in here. We will put him on an accelerated learning program to try to get him up to speed mentally, so he can compete physically for playing time and a possible starting position on the line. He's certainly going to be a good addition to the football team."

St-Pierre played in four games last season for the Hurricanes, seeing action as a blocker on the field goal and extra point units. In 2004, the native of Longeueuil, Quebec, redshirted his first season at Miami. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at Illinois State.

Hailing from one of the most successful prep athletic programs in Canada, Montreal's Vieux Montreal Cegep, St-Pierre played high school football at Gerard Filion Academy. He was a member of Team Canada his last two years in high school, which is the equivalent of an All-Canada All-Star team.
