NORMAL, Ill. -
NORMAL, Ill. - John Sandberg, a student assistant in the Illinois State athletics media relations staff for the past year, has been named graduate assistant for the department. Sandberg is the third staff member to join the Redbird media relations staff in the past two months.
Sandberg is scheduled to complete his undergraduate program with a bachelor's of science degree in public relations from ISU in December. He will begin his graduate work in the sports management program in January, 2007.
"John has a bright future in this business," said Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations Todd Kober. "He has strong writing and editing skills, plus he also has a keen eye with the attention to detail. I look forward to having him on our staff over the next two years and I'm eager to watch his progression and development."
The Moline, Ill. native will serve as the primary media contact for the Redbird cross country, track and field and men's golf programs, while assisting in the public relations efforts of ISU's 14 other sports. One of Sandberg's main responsibilities will be serving as the primary typist on the Redbirds' football stat crew.
Last year, Sandberg was the primary contact for Illinois State's men's golf program.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to join the Illinois State athletics media relations staff," Sandberg said. "I look forward to working with the coaches and student-athletes, and helping to promote Redbird athletics."
Sandberg joins current graduate assistants Kristen Greenstreet and Mike Williams in the athletics media relations department.
