Moser, Redbirds Add Moor Depth

Aug. 2, 2006

NORMAL, Ill. - A college basketball team could always use more depth at the point guard position. Illinois State head coach Porter Moser secured that with the addition of junior walk-on Julius Moor to his 2006-07 roster. Moor joins the Redbirds after leading Kirkwood Community College (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) to back-to-back second-place finishes at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Tournament.

"Depth at the point guard position has obviously been a major issue for us in my first three years here," said Moser. "Julius will provide us some depth, but he's also a winner. He played for a great junior college program for a great coach. Kirkwood has been the national junior college runner-up the last two years. So Julius has won and he's led.

"He's got some size, he's steady and he knows how to play. We are pleased to have him and he's a great piece to the puzzle with what we are trying to build."

Moor, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard, ran the Eagle offense for two seasons under head coach Doug Wagemester. As the team captain last season, Moor averaged nine points and four assists per game. The Eagles won the 2006 Regional XI Championship and posted a 28-5 overall record, including a 64-63 loss to Cecil Community College in the national championship game.

The Kieler, Wis., native is expecting to bring his winning ways to Illinois State.

"I'm excited about being a Redbird and looking forward to getting started with the season," said Moor. "I was really impressed with the coaching staff, the facilities and the Bloomington-Normal community. I just like to `bring it' everyday and do what I can to help the team win."

Prior to attending Kirkwood, Moor starred for Cuba City High School. The three-year starter led the Cubans to a combined 42-8 record during his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, Moor was named the conference's most valuable player after averaging 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists per game. He also received all-state honors.
