NORMAL, Ill. -
Coming off a winning season, in 2005,the 2006 Missouri Valley champions are set to open their fall slate at the Ball State Invitational. The Illinois State men's tennis team heads to Muncie, Ind. to compete in the three day tournament that is scheduled to begin Friday, Sep. 15.
Besides ISU there will be 11 other teams in attendance: Ball State, Butler, Bradley, Indiana State, IPFW, IUPUI, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Valparaiso, Wichita State, and Xavier.
Head coach Greg Kennett and his Redbirds are looking forward to seeing where they stand and if they can handle the competition.
"This tournament will let us take a look at where we stand and what we need to work on," said Kennett. "This tournament also gives us the opportunity to look at our doubles teams."
The Redbirds look to surpass the three titles they took home in as many days at the Ball State Invitational last year. Djordje Uskokovic took home the win in Flight A singles and then teamed up with Yohann Nograbat to win the Flight B doubles. Also gaining a title in Flight C doubles was the tandem of Oscar Beich and Tim Link.
Kennett thinks that his team looks good, but is interested to see how they look under pressure.
"This tournament gives us the opportunity to see who can handle competition," said Kennett.
The tournament is set to begin Friday, Sep. 15 at 9 a.m. and will wrap up Sunday, Sep. 17.
