MUNCIE, Ind. -
The `Birds are in action and will advance six individuals into the quarterfinal singles round and one doubles team into the semifinal round at the Ball State Invitational. The three day Invitational, hosted by Ball State in Muncie, Ind., will continue on until Sunday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
Competing in Flight A singles: Yohann Nograbat, Luka Marinkovic, and Tim Link. Nograbat and Marinkovic will both advance into the quarterfinals from a round of 32. Link put up a strong fight but lost in the first round of 32 to Doug Matthews from Xavier (6-7; 6-2; 10-6).
In other singles, action the `Birds will advance Alfredo Lagarda and Nuno Jacinto in the Flight B singles bracket. In Flight C singles, Michael Hobson and Oscar Beich will represent Illinois State in the quarterfinals Saturday as well.
In Flight C doubles, the tandem Hobson and Link will be representing ISU in the semifinal round. The duo started in the round of sixteen with a bye which automatically advanced them into the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals the team defeated Greg Fallowfield and Nathan Toles of IUPUI (9-8). In the semifinals Hobson and Link are set to compete against Tetta Oyama and Danny Vidal of Ball State, the winner will advance to the final round.
Illinois State sent four doubles teams into action; however, only one team advanced to play in the semifinals on Saturday.
The `Birds will take to the courts again at 8:30 am. The champions will be determined on Sunday when the invitational concludes.
