Rembert Honored by Gateway

Sept. 24, 2006

ST. LOUIS - A workhorse is defined as a person or a machine which performs dependably under heavy or prolonged use. Illinois State's Pierre Rembert was both a workhorse and a machine in Saturday's 35-14 non-conference win at Murray State, and as a result the senior running back was recognized as the Gateway Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week by the league office.

Rembert rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high 39 carries against the Racers. The 100-yard rushing game was Rembert's fourth straight to open the season and tied an Illinois State record for consecutive 100-yard rushing games, also done by Quincy Washington, Willie Watts and Toby Davis.

Rembert has now rushed for 533 yards on the season with four touchdowns. He is averaging 4.5 yards per carry and 133.2 rushing yards per game.

This honor marks the third weekly league honor of Rembert's career, while it is the fifth time a Redbird has been named a GFC Player of the Week this season.
