Wiggins Nets Offensive Lineman of the Week Honors

Sept. 26, 2006

ST. LOUIS - A strong running attack was the difference in the Illinois State football team's 35-14 victory over Murray State last weekend. Junior left tackle Isaiah Wiggins was a big part of that success for the Redbirds, and he was rewarded for his work against the Racers by being named the Gateway Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week on Tuesday.

The Chicago, Ill., native paved the way for the league's offensive player of the week Pierre Rembert, who rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns against the Racers. In addition, the running game allowed the Redbirds to control the play clock for nearly 38 minutes, as opposed to Murray State's 22 minutes of possession.

Wiggins helped in the effort as he played all 75 snaps for the `Birds at left tackle and led the team with 12 knockdowns, while not allowing a sack. He graded out at 87 percent, as ISU totaled 186 yards on the ground.

ISU is off this weekend and returns to action on Oct. 7, when the Redbirds open Gateway Conference play at Western Kentucky. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Bowling Green, Ky.
