NORMAL, Ill. -
For the second time in the last three weeks that the award has been given out, Illinois State junior diver Katie Janonis was named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week on Wednesday by the league offices.
Janonis took home the award based on her outstanding showing at the Florida Atlantic Invitational, in Boca Raton, Fla., on Sat., Jan. 6. The Mt. Prospect, Ill., native tallied her career-best score of 241.15 in the 1-meter diving event giving her a second-place finish. Janonis followed the effort up with a score of 233.95 on the 3-meter board, which tied her for third in the event.
"We are very excited for Katie to win this award because she performed at a high level in Florida," diving coach Alison Cipri said. "The meet was a little different with it being outdoors, but Katie was really relaxed and had a great attitude.
"This past weekend's meet will go along way for Katie as she prepares for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in February."
The FAU Invitational was Janonis' first diving contest since Dec. 1-3 at the SummaCare Invitational in Akron, Ohio. For her efforts in that meet, finishing in the top-10 of both the 1-meter and 3-meter, Janonis was named MVC Diver of the Week (Dec. 5).
The Illinois State swimming and diving team will return to Horton Pool on Mon., Jan.15, against Ball State. The dual meet, which will include senior day festivities, is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
