NORMAL, Ill. -
Seniors Lisa Hanrahan, Jamie Haseman, Jennifer Klicka, Casey McKittrick, Kyle Pullman and Kaitlin Zaumseil competed in their final home swimming and diving meet Monday afternoon in Horton Pool. Though Illinois State fell short to Ball State 190-110, each of the six student-athletes had outstanding individual performances.
Head coach Steve Paska credits each of the seniors for their accomplishments over the past four years.
"To see what this year's senior class has contributed to the team is very hard to describe," said Paska. "What this group has done not only in the pool but academically is something they should all be very proud of. To be the head coach and watch each of these student-athletes take personal pride in their academics and training each year is truly remarkable."
In addition to excellent performances by the six seniors, junior Tracy Deyell had an outstanding performance in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events. Deyell took first in both events with a time of 1:00.20 in the 100-butterfly and a 2:09.61 in the 200-butterfly. Pullman was also a double-winner at the meet with a win in both the 50-freestyle (24.88) and 100-freestyle (54.54).
Diving coach Alison Cipri was extremely pleased with the way the meet went today, and was pleased with the performances of Zaumseil.
"Today we were a team, but I was very proud of Katie [Zaumseil]," said Cipri. "I am very proud of everything she has done over the past four years. At the beginning of the season Katie told me she really wanted to step it up this year and that is exactly what she did at the meet today."
Zaumseil had a season high score on both the 1-meter (222.37) and 3-meter (205.86) boards.
Illinois State swimmers and divers will be on the road January 19 and 20 as they travel to the Bill Ritter Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. The competition is set to be an all-day event.
