ISU Continues to Collect Top-25 Votes, Claims First AP Tally

Jan. 30, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - One week after collecting its first vote in the ESPN/USA Today Top-25 coaches' poll, Illinois State's women's basketball team continued to garner national recognition, earning a vote in this week's Associated Press Top-25 poll.

The Redbirds also claimed five votes in the updated coaches' poll, released Tuesday afternoon.

Illinois State (16-4, 9-0 MVC) is off to a perfect 9-0 start in Valley play heading into this weekend's home stand against Valley foes Evansville (Feb. 2) and Southern Illinois (Feb. 4). The nine consecutive wins already mark the Redbirds' most successful streak since the Gateway Conference was tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference in 1992-93, but it also holds historical significance with some of the most successful campaigns in the Redbird basketball annals. The only other three teams (1983-84, 1984-85, 1988-89) in ISU history to post nine or better conference winning streaks all appeared in the postseason.

In the most recent NCAA RPI Report (Jan. 29), the Redbirds are currently ranked No. 47.

Illinois State will host the Purple Aces beginning at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Redbird Arena.
