Lemont, Ill. -
The Redbirds men's golf team finished in 10th place at the John Dallio Memorial at Ruffled Feathers golf club with a team total of 925 (311, 304, 310), but sophomore Drew Miller finished near the top of the leader board with a three-round-total of 218 (72, 74, 72) , giving him a second place tie while competing individually.
"Drew was a bright spot in a tough weekend for us," said head coach Ray Kralis. "I am really proud of the way he played and hopefully he can be the kind of spark we need going into a home tournament."
Redshirt sophomore Joe Emerich was the only other Redbird to crack the top-30. Emerich finished with a three-round-total of 228 (76, 74, 78) en route to a 24th place finish.
The Redbirds next event is the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, a home tournament staged at the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State. Coach Kralis feels like his young team is primed to defend its home course.
"Our guys have not scored well for the most part this season, but I think playing at home may be what our guys need," said Kralis. " We need to get back to what we do and not worry about other teams or the leaderboard. Playing a home event will hopefully give our guys some much needed confidence to finish strong through the fall."
The D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate takes place Sunday and Monday, Oct. 7-8. The 54-hole event begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
