NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State University Board of Trustees today approved the construction of grandstands and other spectator amenities at the Illinois State University baseball stadium, home of Duffy Bass Field and the Redbird baseball team, at a cost of $3 million.
The baseball field has received national awards, but spectator amenities include a single set of bleachers seating about 500 and one press/score keeper/announcing booth. The project will include a gated baseball complex of 1,000-1,200 spectator seats, restrooms, concessions, team dugouts and a proper press box, among other amenities.
The baseball field was recently renamed in honor of Duffy Bass, the winningest men's team coach in Illinois State history. Funds for the expansion will come from repair and replacement reserves.
