NORMAL, Ill. -
Sophomore Stacey Miller has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week following her 10th-place finish at the Ross Resorts Invitational Oct. 29-30. Miller fired a three-round total of 233 (78, 77, 78) and led the Redbirds to an eighth-place finish in their final tournament of the fall.
The Bloomington, Ill., native leads the Redbirds with a season-scoring average of 76.9 and has competed in each of Illinois State's five events this fall.
"Stacey has really been our rock all semester long," said head women's golf coach Darby Sligh. "She has been consistent all year and it is great to see her get recognition for the way she has played."
Sligh also feels that Miller has a great deal of potential to grow as a player and leader for a young Illinois State team.
"Stacey has found herself as a golfer and as a leader for our team," said Sligh. "We are still waiting for her to really break through and go low with her scoring. We feel that once she does that, she can reach even another level with her game.
Miller and the Redbirds will get some time off following the Ross Resorts Invitational, as Illinois State is not back in action until Feb. 6-7, 2008 at the Fighting Camel Spring Classic.
