`Redbird Baseball World Series' Begins Thursday

Oct. 4, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - As most of the nation is caught up in the excitement of the 2007 Major League Baseball playoffs, the Illinois State baseball team is getting into action in its own way, as it begins the "Redbird Baseball World Series" Thursday at 5 p.m. at Duffy Bass Field. The Redbirds will split into two teams, with one team wearing red and the other wearing white, and will play a seven-game playoff series throughout the month of October.

The series, which is in its first year in the seven-game format, will continue with games scheduled for Oct. 5, 9, 11 and 16, beginning at 5 p.m. The games slated for Sunday, Oct. 14 and Wednesday, Oct. 17 will begin at 10 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., respectively.

Bragging rights will be on the line, as the two squads were matched evenly and chosen by the seniors. Captains Kyle Cherney, Tyler Cox and Collin Salzenstein will mentor the white team, while seniors Kevin Konsler and Eric Theisen will handle the red team.
