Late Fumble Sinks Winnipeg in Loss to B.C.

Oct. 5, 2007

WINNIPEG, Canada - In a battle between two Canadian Football League division leaders, former Illinois State quarterback Kevin Glenn and Winnipeg dropped a heart-breaking 26-20 decision to the B.C. Lions on a rainy Friday night at Canad Inns Stadium.

Glenn led the Blue Bombers on an apparent game-tying drive with less than a minute remaining, but Winnipeg running back Charles Roberts fumbled the ball on the B.C. 1-yard line, as the Lions recovered the loose ball and held on for the victory. The loss dropped Winnipeg's record to 8-5-1 on the season, and the Bombers still remain in first place in the East Division.

The Lions dominated the first half and held a 19-4 lead at the intermission. A 35-yard touchdown pass from Glenn to Terrance Edwards in the third quarter cut the B.C. lead to 19-11, with 1:23 remaining in the quarter. The touchdown pass capped off a seven-play, 86-yard scoring drive.

B.C. added to its lead in the fourth quarter with a touchdown to take a 26-11 advantage, but Glenn completed a 15-yard touchdown pass with Milt Stegall to close the deficit. The drive lasted five plays and covered 73 yards, while the Blue Bombers trailed 26-18, with 4:30 left in the game. After the Roberts' fumble, B.C. surrendered a safety for the final 26-20 margin.

Glenn completed 21-of-31 pass attempts, while throwing for 285 yards and two touchdowns. He had one interception, which occurred on a hail-mary pass attempt to end regulation.

Winnipeg returns to action Oct. 14 when the Blue Bombers travel to Calgary. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
