NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State football program had four former players suit up for NFL action Sunday, including a head-to-head matchup between Boomer Grigsby's Kansas City Chiefs and Brent Hawkins' Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hawkins won the statistical battle and the ballgame, as the Jags posted a 17-7 win in Arrowhead Stadium. The 2005 Gateway Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year finished with a tackle assist on defense and a solo tackle on special teams for Jacksonville in the win. Grigsby also saw time on special teams, but did not record a stat.
Former Redbird Laurént Robinson put up some numbers as well Saturday, leading the Atlanta Falcons in receiving. Robinson finished with four catches for 27 yards, but the Falcons lost, 20-13, at Tennessee. The 2005 Gateway Offensive Player of the Year was thrown to eight times on the day.
In other action, Aveion Cason made his second return to the Detroit Lions this season. Cason was released from the team Sept. 25, but resigned on Oct. 4. Cason posted two catches for five yards in Detroit's 34-3 loss at Washington. He also added a special teams tackle on the game's opening kickoff.
