Redbirds Fall Out of the Top-25

Oct. 8, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - After three-straight losses, the Illinois State football team has fallen out of the national top-25 polls for the first time in 23 weeks, dating back to the final poll of the 2005 season.

The Redbirds are still receiving votes in each poll with 14 tallies in The Sports Network Top-25 Poll and three votes in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches' Poll.

As a result of the Redbirds' fall, the Gateway Football Conference has dropped to four teams in the top-25 polls, with Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Youngstown State and Western Illinois each maintaining their places in the national rankings. Montana continues to hold the No. 1 spot, according to The Sports Network, but was ousted by future Illinois State opponent North Dakota State in the FCS Coaches' Poll.

Illinois State returns to action Saturday, when the Redbirds host Indiana State for Homecoming 2007. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
