The Illinois State women's golf team is in fourth place after day one action of the Shoot-Out at the Legends at the Legends of Indiana Golf Club in Franklin, Ind. The Redbirds recorded a two-round-team-total of 603 (303, 300) and are just eight strokes back heading into final round action.
"We are very close to achieving one of our goals of a sub 300 round," said head coach Darby Sligh. "Our girls are getting better each week are showing themselves just how well they can play. We put ourselves in great position heading into Tuesday and hopefully we can make something happen."
The Redbirds were led by junior co-captain Tiffany Hockensmith who is currently in sixth place following a two-round-total of 149 (73, 76). Sophomores Britt Knutson (75, 75) and Stacey Miller (77, 73) are currently tied for seventh following two-round-totals of 150.
"We need to have two or three girls play well each tournament if we want to have a chance to win," said Sligh. "All of our girls have played well this season and I think they are ready to break out. We have been so consistent in both our play and improvement that all we need now is for it to all come together."
Eastern Michigan leads the 54-hole event after recording a team total of 595 (290, 305) on day one. The individual event is led by Seul Ki Park who fired a two-round-total of 139 (66, 73).
The Shoot-Out at the legends concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m.
