FRANKLIN, Ind. -
The Illinois State women's golf team took fourth place Tuesday in the Shoot-Out at the Legends at the Legends of Indiana Golf Club in Franklin, Ind. The Redbirds were led by junior co-captain Tiffany Hockensmith's three-round-total of 226 (73, 76, 77).
"Today was a tough day for us but we were able to play fairly well this week," said head coach Darby Sligh. "It wasn't so much that we lost focus but a few factors entered in and we did not have anyone really step up today. It was good to see four rounds in the 70's but we were just a click off today."
Hockensmith, who fired a final round 77, finished in a tie for seventh place. Also finishing in the top-20 for Illinois State were sophomores Stacey Miller and Britt Knutson. Miller placed tied for 12th after recording a three-round-total of 228 (77, 73, 78) while Knutson finished in a 16th place tie after posting a three-round-total of 229 (75, 75, 79).
"I think our girls have shown a lot of improvement this fall, and we have taken steps towards getting where we want to be but it will be nice to get some time off before we head to North Carolina," said Sligh.
The tournament title was claimed by Eastern Michigan who recorded a three-round-team-total of 888 (290, 305, 293). The Eagles finished nine strokes ahead of second place Illinois who finished the 54-hole event with a three-round-total of 907 (296, 304, 307). The Fighting Illini claimed the individual title as Seul Ki Park shot a three-round-total of 212 (66, 73, 73).
Illinois State concludes its fall season as the Redbirds head to North Carolina for the Ross Resorts Invitational hosted by Rollins College in Southern Pines N.C. Oct. 29-30.
