Redbirds in the Pros: Glenn Leads Winnipeg to Grey Cup

Nov. 18, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - Former Illinois State quarterback Kevin Glenn led Winnipeg to a 19-9 victory over Toronto Sunday, in the Canadian Football League East Division final at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. As a result, the Blue Bombers will participate in the Grey Cup for the first time since 2001.

Glenn passed for 201 yards and a touchdown on 15-for-21 passing, before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a broken left arm. He was instrumental on the Blue Bombers first scoring drive, completing four-straight passing, including a 7-yard touchdown pass to Milt Stegall.

Winnipeg will now face Saskatchewan, Glenn's former team, in the 95th Grey Cup game, next Sunday in Toronto, but they will be without the services of the East Division's Most Outstanding Player. Glenn broke his non-throwing arm on the first play on the fourth quarter during a botched handoff with running back Charles Roberts. The Blue Bombers last won a Grey Cup in 1990.

In NFL action, Brent Hawkins collected a pair of special teams' tackles bringing down San Diego's Darren Sproles twice on punt returns in Jacksonville's 24-17 win over the Chargers. Kansas City's Boomer Grigsby also saw game action, but did not record a stat in the Chiefs' 13-10 loss at Indianapolis.

Detroit's Aveion Cason returned three kickoffs for a total of 67 yards, including a long of 24 yards, but the Lions lost to the visiting New York Giants, 16-10. Laurent Robinson notched another start as wide receiver with Atlanta, but his two catches for 43 yards were not enough as the Falcons fell 31-7, to Tampa Bay. One of Robinson's catches, a 33-yard reception, resulted in the only Atlanta touchdown.
