Redbirds Receive Votes In Associated Press Poll

Nov. 20, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - Off to the third 4-0 start in school history, the Illinois State women's basketball team is starting to receive some national recognition. The Redbirds received seven votes in this week's Associated Press Top-25 poll, which was released Tuesday, Nov. 20. It is the most votes ISU has earned in the AP poll since Jan. 30, 2006, when it picked up one vote after starting Missouri Valley Conference play with a perfect 9-0 record.

The Redbirds won three games in four days last week, beating Green Bay in their home opener, 79-70, and topping Tennessee-Martin, 70-60, and South Florida, 82-57, to win the Best Western Roundball Classic title. ISU leads the Valley in field goal percentage (.496), three-point field goal percentage (.400), assists (76) and is second in scoring (76.0).

Indiana State, coming off its upset of then-No. 17 Vanderbilt also received a vote in the latest AP poll. ISU's next opponent, DePaul, moved up to No. 18 in the AP poll and is 3-0, including a win over then-No. 18 Florida State. The Redbirds host the Blue Demons on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 2:05 p.m.
