HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Sophomore Joe Emerich fired a three-round total of 220 (73, 71, 76) and tied for 27th place as the Illinois State men's golf team took 11th place at the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate, hosted by Southern Mississippi at Canebrake Country Club.

The Redbirds finished with a three-round-team total of 893 (286, 300, 307) and were unable to make up ground on the rest of the field in the final 18 holes. True freshman Will Cullen was the only other Redbird in the top-30 as he recorded a three-round-total of 221 (68, 77, 76) while finishing tied for 29th.

"We thought we had an opportunity to come out today and pick up a few spots in the standings," said head coach Ray Kralis. "Unfortunately the wind really picked up today and our guys were just unable to put any real consistent scoring together."

UAB won the 11-team event after recording an 858 (282, 282, 294) as a team, finishing just one stroke ahead of tournament host Southern Mississippi, who tallied a team total of 859 (277, 286, 296). David McKendrick of Louisiana-Monroe won the individual event with a three-round total of 203 (67, 68, 68).

Illinois State does not compete again until Feb. 16, 2008, when the Redbirds will co-host the Tiverin Cup with Illinois at the Coral Creek Club in Placida, Fla.
