Junior guard Kristi Cirone and senior guard Tiffany Hudson combined for 25 points to lead the Redbirds to a 42-29 halftime lead over Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Dec. 2. Cirone had six field goals for 13 points while Hudson added 12.
The Redbirds jumped out to a 7-0 lead with baskets on their first three possessions, led by five points from Hudson. After consecutive Eagle baskets, ISU rattled off another seven unanswered to go ahead by nine, 14-5, at the 15:53 mark. A layup by Cirone at 12:04 gave the Redbirds their first double-digit lead of the game, 23-13.
After Eastern Michigan cut the deficit down to five points with nine minutes remaining in the first half, the Redbirds opened up a 17-9 run to close out the period and take a 42-29 lead into the locker room at halftime. ISU shot a sizzling 59.4 (19-32) percent from the field in the first half, its best shooting percentage in the opening frame this season.
Eastern Michigan relied heavily on the three-pointer as five of its 11 field goals in the first half were from beyond the arc. Guard Alyssa Pittman made all five and led the Eagles with 17 points at the break.
