Stewart Named to CSN All-America Team

Dec. 21, 2007

CHICAGO - Illinois State senior linebacker Kye Stewart (Nashville, Tenn./Pearl-Cohn HS) earned his second postseason all-America honor in 2007 Friday, as Stewart was named to College Sporting News 2007 Fabulous 50 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America Team.

The Redbirds have had at least one representative on CSN's All-America Team each season since 2002. Stewart becomes the ninth player from ISU to be named to the team in the last six seasons.

Stewart led the Gateway Football Conference in tackles, after finishing runner-up in 2006. Stewart, a 2007 Walter Camp Football Foundation All-American, earned first-team all-league honors for the second-straight year in 2007 and finished with 131 tackles on the season. He posted double-digit tackle totals in every game but two, and matched his career-high with 17 takedowns against Western Illinois.

Stewart, who finished fourth in the national defensive player of the year voting, was one of four Gateway players on the list. He was joined by Northern Iowa's Chad Rinehart (OL) and Mark Huygens (DL) and Western Illinois placekicker Taylor Rowan. In all, 37 teams and 13 conferences were represented on the team.
