Redbirds Travel to Louisiana for Meet Against Centenary and Texas Woman's

Feb. 1, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team (3-2) and senior Whitney Albright take competition to Shreveport, La. this weekend to compete against Centenary (1-7) and Texas Woman's (3-3). The meet will be hosted by Centenary and is set to start at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the Gold Dome.

Head coach Bob Conkling believes his team will do very well in the triangular meet.

"The team is prepared for this meet," Conkling said. "It is going to be a tight competition but the girls will do great."

Friday's meet will be the Redbird's first match-up against Texas Woman's this season and the second with Centenary. This will be the second week in a row that TWU and Centenary have competed against each other.

The `Birds have been successful in the past two home meets and taking competition on the road does not seem to be a problem any longer.

"Having two home meets has helped us going into this away meet," Conkling said. "We did well at home and it will help us on this road trip."

The uneven bars and balance beam look to be the strong events this weekend.

"All of the girls will do well. Whitney will be great on the all-around and Jessica Prousa is looking very strong," said Conkling.

The Redbird gymnasts look forward to returning home with a 5-2 record to match last year's win record early in the season.
