Miller Earns Sixth MVC Golfer of the Week Honor

ST. LOUIS - For the sixth time in his career, senior Matt Miller was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday. Miller's week of competition was highlighted by capturing medalist honors at the 12th Annual UTSA Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas. The Bloomington, Ill., native fired a final-round four-under-par 67, finishing four shots ahead of his nearest competitor and notching his second career victory.

Miller ended the tournament with a three-round total of five-under-par 208 (72, 69, 67). His performance helped the Redbirds move up two spots in the standings, tying for sixth place with Nebraska with a team total of 899 (306, 297, 296) at the par-71, 6,765-yard, Oak Hills Country Club.

The Normal Community High School Product also shot the low individual round of 70 in singles match play and won the match, however, the Redbirds fell short against Illinois, 5 ½ to 3 ½, at the Tinervin Cup Saturday at the Coral Creek Golf Country Club in Placida, Fla. Miller highlighted the Redbirds' performance in the afternoon by defeating the Illini's Patrick Nagle, a former PING third team all-American selection.

Miller and the `Birds will compete at the Samford Intercollegiate on March 11-12, in Limestone, Ala.
