'Birds to Host First Midweek Meet Against EMU

Feb. 27, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team (5-6) will host its first meeting of the season with Eastern Michigan (6-5) Wednesday, February 28, in Horton Field House at 7 p.m. The meet will be the second meet in four days for the Redbirds.

Head coach Bob Conkling believes this meet could go either way.

"Eastern has been very consistent and the result will come down to who hits on their events," Conkling said. "It will be a very competitive meet for the two teams."

The meets, close in timing, have not seemed to be a problem in practice for the Redbird gymnasts.

"I think the girls are going to do great," Conkling said. "They are coming into the gym, throwing their routines and are looking really solid."

Meaghan Koshman, who was not feeling well during the meet at Illinois-Chicago, will be back in the gym to compete against the Eagles on Wednesday. Amanda Candler will also be ready to perform after a sudden illness held her back from traveling last Sunday.

The gymnasts will also be appearing at home on Sunday, March 4 for a triangular meet against Illinois and Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
