ST. LOUIS (AP) - Indiana State freshman Marcio Stinson hit a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left to lift Indiana State past Illinois State 68-65 in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament game on Thursday.
With the win, which snapped a six-game losing streak, Indiana State (13-17) advances to the quarterfinals on Friday second-seeded Creighton.
Jay Tunnell led Indiana State with 16 points, Cole Holmstrom had 12 and Adam Arnold and Gabe Moore each had 10 points.
Osiris Eldridge paced the Redbirds (15-16) with 18 points and Greg Dilligard added 11.
Illinois State went on a 9-0 run to take a 52-41 lead with 12:04 left in the game.
Indiana State answered with an 18-6 run to tie the game at 60-60 with 6 minutes remaining. The teams traded free throws - and the lead - before Stinson's 3-pointer put the Sycamores up for good.
Illinois State led 34-31 at the half.
