NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State gymnastics team will make their way to Chicago on Saturday, where the Midwest Independent Conference Championships will take place. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. and will be held at the Physical Education Building on Illinois-Chicago's campus. This will be the final trip the 2007 Redbird gymnasts will take together.
All MIC teams will be in attendance including Southeast Missouri State, Centenary, UIC and Texas Woman's. The Redbirds are currently 2-2 against UIC, 1-1 with Centenary, 1-1 with Texas Woman's and 0-2 with SEMO.
The `Birds will look to redeem themselves after a fourth place finish last Sunday at the State of Illinois Classic. Head coach Bob Conkling will give the same advice he has given the gymnasts all season.
"We know what we are capable of and it is only a matter of going in and hitting each event," Conkling said. "There is nothing to lose at the meet this Saturday,"
The `Birds will be led by all-arounders Whitney Albright, Meaghan Koshman, and Jessica Prousa. Each gymnast has a chance to make an appearance at Regionals as long as their scores can hold up during their final meet.
"We will need to go for it and attack," Conkling said. "I am impressed with the performances the girls have shown this season, but the bottom line is that we have to compete well against these competitors to advance."
