NORMAL, Ill. -
Summer is quickly approaching and that means that it's time to hit the links once again for the 5th Annual Chevys Redbird Golf Classic, which will be held on Friday, June 8, at the Illinois State University Golf Course.
The festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. when competitors can sign in and then enjoy a kick-off luncheon sponsored by Subway. Play will start at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start and will be played as a four-person scramble format. When play is over, participants will be treated to a catered dinner sponsored by Chevys, with special guest speakers and prizes. Registration cost is $150 per player and the field is limited to 120 entrants.
Assistant to the Director Larry Morlan is the tournament director and hopes this year's event is as successful as previous years.
"This event continues to grow each year and playing spots fill up quicker each time," said Morlan. "We had people on a waiting list last year and we hope that this year's signup will be just as successful. This event is always a great time for everyone involved and is definitely something we look forward to each summer."
Proceeds from the event go directly into The Redbird Club's Scholarship Fund, which helps support Illinois State student-athlete scholarships. Many of the student-athletes who are supported by the event come out each year to say thank you to the players, which is something Morlan believes makes the event so special.
"All of the people who support the event really get to see exactly what their money is going towards," said Morlan. "Many of our student-athletes attend the event each year and get to talk with the people who support them. Many of the coaches and athletic department administrators are also at the event, which shows that the department as a whole really cares about the people who support it."
