April 18, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior football player Dan Simnick was one of the 11 students honored by the Management and Quantitative Methods (MQM) Department within Illinois State University's College of Business for his academic achievement and service.

The native of Naperville, Ill., was named the winner of the MQM Foundation Award for Citizenship and Service. Majoring in business administration, with a minor in insurance, Simnick has been actively involved in the Bloomington-Normal community through the State Farm "Just Read" program, the American Red Cross Blood Drive, Relay for Life and the Harvest of Hope Food Drive.

"Dan is a true Redbird, who embodies all of the qualities we embrace in our football program," said head coach Denver Johnson. "Dan is a great competitor on the field, a serious student and an outstanding teammate, friend and citizen."

Simnick, a product of Naperville North High School, played in all 13 games during the 2006 season and posted five starting assignments on the defensive line. He finished the season with eight tackles, including two solo stops and a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery.
