Women's Tennis Seeded Fourth Heading Into MVC Championships

April 23, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - Following the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday, the Illinois State women's tennis team now turns its attention to the upcoming 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Championship to be held April 27-29, at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha, Neb. The `Birds will be seeded fourth and face No. 5 Drake on Friday at 10 a.m., as announced by the league offices on Monday.

The Redbirds finished the season with a 12-8 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the Valley. The `Birds finished in a three-way tie for second place with Northern Iowa and 66th-ranked Indiana State, behind Wichita State, who finished with a perfect 8-0 league record.

The Redbirds are seeded fourth due MVC procedure "d". Each of the three teams were 1-1 in head-to-head match ups against one another, so the tiebreaker between the `Birds and Sycamores was decided based on who captured more individual matches versus the three tied schools. Indiana State took home 10 matches against UNI and the Redbirds, while Illinois State registered eight wins versus UNI and Indiana State. ISU then lost the tiebreaker to Northern Iowa, based on the Panthers' 4-3 victory over the Redbirds on Saturday.

The `Birds will face a familiar foe on Friday in Drake. ISU defeated Drake, 4-2, on Sunday in Normal, Ill., after the `Birds rallied to win four straight singles matches following the Bulldogs claiming the doubles point.
