Miller in 10th, Birds Tied for 16th at NCAA Men's Golf Regional

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - Senior Matt Miller fired a two-over-par 74 during Thursday's first-round, leading the Illinois State men's golf team at the NCAA Central Regional in Sugar Grove, Ill. Miller, who finished the day tied for 10th place, helped the Redbirds end the round tied for 16th with SMU, firing a team total of 317.

Miller heads into the second-round only four shots off the lead. The Redbirds will tee off Friday beginning at 12:59 p.m., and are paired with Oklahoma and Nebraska.

Freshman Drew Miller ended the first-round tied for 51st, firing a total of 79. Freshman Tommy Bliefnick is tied for 76th with a score of 81, while sophomore Joe Emerich finished the day tied for 98th with a total of 83. Rounding out the lineup for the Redbirds, sophomore Ben Murphy fired a score of 86 and ended tied for 123rd.

Louisville finished the day in the lead at Rich Harvest Links, shooting a team total of six-over-par 294. Texas (303) finished in second, while Wisconsin (304) ended the round in third. Tulsa sits in fourth after recording a team score of 305, and Oklahoma State is only one shot behind in fifth.

Derek Fathauer of Louisville is in the individual lead after day one, shooting a two-under-par 70.
